Mod:
The
tail servo is under much more strain while the tail blades are spinning
than you realize.
When
the tail blades are not spinning, there is very little load on the tail
servo. But when it is spinning, the tail slider wants to forcibly move
to center due to something called the "tennis racquet effect".
This makes servo movement to the extremes cause ALOT of force
on
the tail servo. Tail servos need to be fast to compensate for forces on
the helicopter that want to spin the tail. Faster tail servos hold the
tail better. But tail servos when loaded against more force will move
slower. Many manufacturers are adding this standard to their helis (MSH
Protos, Align 450 Pro Align 450 Sport, Align 250SE, Miniature Aircraft
Furion, SJM 430
Coupled with a digital tail servo, I have been able to increase my gyro
gain by using this mod.
How much depends on the existing weight of your tail blades and the
strength of the servo.
Stronger servo on a 450 like a Futaba 9257 or Power HD 3688 will be affected less by
this mod but this mod will still improve response and allow the servo to work less. The
Trex 450 Pro blade grips now come with weights built into the grips
(bump out in the grips).

To compensate for this, many helicopter pilots previously would install
much bigger tail servos than a 9g size servo on a 450.
NOTE:
These photos are on metal tails. On the Plastic tail boxes of the EXI
450 I have seen that the nuts will hit the control arm during flight.
leave 2mm of space between the nut and the control arm. How
the
tail hub is positioned on the tail shaft also can push the tail
assembly closer to the tail control arm causing them to hit as well. So
double check your work!
So your parts list is:
qty 2 2mm by 16mm long socket cap head screw
qty 2 2mm nylon insert nut
qty 24 2mm flat washer
For a 450, you can get fastiners from http://www.rtlfasteners.com
part #'s you need are
CM2016 (#2 2mm x 16mm SS hex cap screw x 12)
ML020 (#2 nylon insert nut x 12)
MF020 (#2 flat washers x 50)
This is enough to do 2 450 helis. Add more MF020 washers to
do more helis.
